It is of grave importance.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37949944.post-39450185020858475522009-11-15T16:09:16.372-04:002009-11-15T16:09:16.372-04:00I suspect someone in government wanted Anguilla to...I suspect someone in government wanted Anguilla to be a haven for the arts in the Caribbean, and then someone in the Ministry of Finance decided that we can encourage artists of modest means or we can encourage rich ones, and that's why the fees are so high

Anguillian artists don't need work permits but they do need business licenses and I wonder if any of them have these.

But this doesn't help you. I've heard that others have donated time to do public art, or teach our children, and have had their fees waived. Talk to other artists. Fine out if that's true. Many of our classrooms are dreary. They should all be bright and happy places of learning, like the children's section of the Public Library. Do you do murals?

If you're desperate, become an interior decorator. Or marry an Anguillian. :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37949944.post-53375349774567012152009-11-15T13:10:08.379-04:002009-11-15T13:10:08.379-04:00Question? I have been living in Anguilla since 198...Question? I have been living in Anguilla since 1985 for the winters, about 6-7 months, and full time from 1990 just going back to the states for 4 or 5 months during a few summers. I applied for Belongers and had been refused because I couldn't prove a couple of days-dates in question as I used to leave from Blowing point and records and passports were not stamped on a regular basis back then when asked if you were going to St. Martin, and at that time I did not know I would end up living here or knew the rules or I would have kept better records myself back then. I had several people write letters stating that I have been here the correct amount of time but no luck. Now what is involved in permanent residency as I rent full time. I cannot afford the price of land and building in Anguilla. What is involved in getting your permanent residency? At some point if I get that will I be able to get my belongers? I have heard so many different stories. Why are the work permits for artists so very expensive. An artist (Who according to labor statistics in the U.S.A., Canada, England and others, a full time self employed artist will gross only $12,000.00 to $15,000.00 a year on average. Yet in Anguilla a work permit cost over 15,000.00 EC and a business license is over $4,800.00 EC dollars bringing the cost for a self employed fine art painter to create art work and sell it in Anguilla almost 20,000.00 EC dollars PER YEAR AND WE ONLY HAVE A 7 MONTH SEASON TO SELL TO TOURISTS. Yes that is what I paid and I have the receipts to prove it. THAT EQUATES TO JUST UNDER $2,800.00 EC DOLLARS PER MONTH. HELP! I LOVE THE ISLAND AND HAVE BEEN HERE A LONG TIME. I THINK $6,000.00 EC DOLLARS WOULD BE MUCH MORE FAIR FOR A SINGLE ARTIST TO HAVE A WORK PERMIT AND if needed a business license in total. WHAT DO I NEED A BUSINESS LICENSE FOR IF I AM ONLY WORKING FROM MY HOME OR DOING PAINTINGS PLEIN-AIR OR A PROTRAIT BY COMMISSION. I AM NOT TAKING A JOB FROM ANY ANGUILLIAN AS ART IS IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER EITHER A POTENTIAL CLIENT LIKES YOUR VERY INDIVIDUALISTIC STYLE AND VOICE AND BUYS YOUR PAINTING OR THEY LIKE ANOTHER PAINTERS STYLE AND VOICE. NO TWO PAINTERS HAVE THE SAME EYE OR STYLE, OR PAINTINGS, SO THERE IS NOT THE COMPETETION THAT THERE MIGHT BE FOR TWO HOUSE PAINTERS. I WAS UNDER THE IDEA AND WAS TOLD WHEN I FIRST CAME HERE THAT ANGUILLA WANTED TO BE A HAVEN FOR THE ARTS IN THE CARIBBEAN. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN AT THESE GOV.FEES. REMEMBER THE GALLERY GETS 50% OR MORE OF THE COST OF A PEACE OF ART AND HOW MANY PAINTINGS DOES AN AVERAGE ARTIST REALLY SELL IN A YEAR? ACCORDING TO LABOR FIGURES NOT AS MANY A THE ANGUILLIAN GOV. MUST THINK. ANONYMOUS NEEDS HELP AS I WILL ALMOST PAY FOR THIS YEARS LICENSE WITH LUCK BY THE TIME A NEW ONE IS DUE. YES WE ARE TALKING JUST UNDER $7,500.00 U.S. DOLLARS PER YEAR FOR A FINE ART PAINTER TO WORK OUT OF THEIR RESIDENCE IN ANGUILLA. PLEASE GIVE SOME THOUGHTS ON THIS MATTER IF YOU HAVE THE TIME. MANY PEOPLE I KNOW THAT SELL REAL ESTATE, INTERIOR DESIGNERS, PROJECT MANAGERS, AND CONSTRUCTION MANAGERS AND ENGINEERS, TELL ME I CAN'T BE PAYING THAT MUCH AS THEY PAY LESS THAN HALF THAT AMOUNT TO WORK IN ANGUILLA AND MAKE 7 TO 10 TIMES MORE MONEY. IT JUST DOESN'T SEEM FAIR. I WOULD ENJOY YOUR THOUGHTS. ANONOMYOUS.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
