Imagine one was one to fatten a Lawyers bank account what a shame. If the British will have to take over, to drastically reduce government spending immediately, or can our new government do the same.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37949944.post-90403190223584675352010-02-21T11:08:36.956-04:002010-02-21T11:08:36.956-04:00The Hughes Government inherited huge financial pro...The Hughes Government inherited huge financial problems from the previous Government, so Yes they can blame the previous Gov, who refused to collect taxes from the population, refused to tax investors appropriately and gave Civil servants an unsustainable 25% pay rise, in the middle of a recession, not to mention the huge unrealistic budget. Some Anguillian workers were unhappy at Viceroy, Cap Juluca, Carillion for being treated like third class citizens in their own country.
The reason this country is so divided is that those who did well really did well, and the others sucked salt so to speak. Good luck to the Hughes Government, the workers needed representation, the Labour,Immigration and Planning Departments needed to be able to function properly by policing all businesses equally.
It will take Anguilla years to get back on its feet, to pay back the financial debt, and for the local population to once again be respected as the rightful first class citizens of their own country.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37949944.post-54137688893010821672010-02-21T09:20:16.005-04:002010-02-21T09:20:16.005-04:00To the second poster above, concerning Jerome stil...To the second poster above, concerning Jerome still working at Anglec, (a) the election was less than a week ago, so even if Jerome were in government he would still have to give proper notice to Anglec that he has a new job; and (b) being an opposition member of the House of Assembly is NOT a full time job: if Jerome gave it up what would he do all day? The HoA only sits once every 6 weeks or so, for half a day at a time usually.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37949944.post-33910347553244359642010-02-21T08:08:07.336-04:002010-02-21T08:08:07.336-04:00Seems like we may have a mini constitutional crisi...Seems like we may have a mini constitutional crisis on our hands if Neil Rogers was never a duly elected member of the House. Imagine all those bills, laws, regulations, sign under the AUF when Rogers was in the government. If a judge agress with Sutcliffe, Can the people of Anguilla sue because those laws were never legal?

Frankly, I think this is just a case of a greedy lawyer giving Sutcliffe bad advice. Any year 1 law student knows this challenge will be thrown out.

Mr. Hodge we have bigger issues than to be suing about Neil right in the legislature when he just served the last 4 years.

Stop turning Anguilla into a mini-Haiti. The ele
ction is over, move on.

*****

A refreshing change to see what the new strategy of the opposition members will be. This does create a huge opportunity to be seen as the voice and leader of the opposition. But I'm afraid he will be reveal as a typical politican opportunist when he signs on with HUges government. I give Hubert 2 years before his government fall. He has no clue on how to govern always calling for national government when he just want to silence the opposition. Mr. Hughes your party one, now go govern and lead. Stop behaving like American democrats. They have control of all levers of government and still blaming republicans for their agenda not moving forward.

I wonder what's taking them so long to update the government website on the new ministers. Then again maybe I'm too critical. I'm just an Anguillian typing away from decadent Europe.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37949944.post-31850569579980683472010-02-20T16:31:26.638-04:002010-02-20T16:31:26.638-04:00Don do you agree with HONORABLE Jerome Roberts sti...Don do you agree with HONORABLE Jerome Roberts still working in Anglec as a Customer Service Supervisor and being member of the House????

Greedy!!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-37949944.post-15523974581637957632010-02-20T11:19:07.685-04:002010-02-20T11:19:07.685-04:00Don, you said "From Jerome's point of vie...Don, you said "From Jerome's point of view, there are temptations to join with Hubert. He would be gaining a front seat at the banquet of power."

I disagree. The front seat is where Hubert is. The front row is where ExCo is. Jerome, no matter what he does, can only attain the second row, previously occupied by such notables as Belto, Donna Banks and the useless Samuel Connor. These are not heights to which to aspire.

Speaking of dead-enders, the Tsarina was seen yesterday sweeping the steps of her shoe store. I wonder what she charges. I have some yard work needs doing by my place.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
